I went to Laura Stevens Physical Therapy and Here’s What Happened
My journey to physical therapy started with a visit to my primary care doctor. I inquired about options to relieve my upper back/neck/shoulder pain, and to my surprise, he recommended physical therapy. I had expected an x-ray or pain medicine, but my doctor assured me that PT could help identify the source of my pain and provide relief. With the chance for pain relief in sight, I made the appointment for a consultation.
I wasn’t sure what to expect. It had been a long time since I received PT, so I was a bit anxious in the waiting room. My PT evaluation started as a conversation with Laura Stevens about my medical history and the type of pain I had been experiencing. It continued with some measurements of my flexibility and tests of my range of motion. Next, Laura checked the trouble spots to see if she could feel the source of my discomfort. Once she finished the evaluation, we discussed her initial impressions and a plan for my therapy.
My treatment involved a series of stretching and strength training exercises, followed by massage and electrical stimulation. The treatment plan would strengthen the muscles in my core and upper back and address the source of my current pain. I didn’t notice immediate results, but after a couple of visits, I felt stronger and had improved range of motion. Once I become comfortable with the exercises and learned proper technique, I started to perform my own PT at home.
At the conclusion of my treatment plan, I noticed significant improvement in my pain levels. More importantly, I developed a new perspective on health and fitness. I incorporated the PT exercises into my daily routine and have focused on improving my health. The PTA’s stressed proper posture, so I’ve been trying harder than ever to keep my shoulders back and chin up. Since I have increased my daily activity level, I have more energy throughout the day and sleep better at night.
Physical therapy did more than address the discomfort in my back. It changed my approach to daily life and inspired me to live a healthier lifestyle.

Through my experiences at Laura Stevens Physical Therapy, I learned that physical therapy isn’t only for people recovering from injuries and major surgery. If you have pain that just won’t go away, consider seeing a physical therapist. It can be the start of healing and a new outlook on life.
Thank you to Laura, Mike, Maren and the entire staff at Laura Stevens PT!
