Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine usually occurring during puberty. The severity of the curvature can vary from person to person.
Physical therapy can help to correct this potentially disabling condition by strengthening the muscles along the spine, gaining flexibility, and
correcting postural imbalances. At Laura Stevens Physical Therapy, we work with various degrees of scoliosis and patients of all ages. Our
therapists are trained to help elongate tense muscles along the collapsed side of the spine through stretching, massage and modalities. A
therapeutic exercise program is customized to each patient to activate weak muscles along the curvature. Our patients are given detailed
home exercise programs to emphasize postural control and alleviate discomfort throughout the day.
